KAUKAUNA — It was just nine months ago that the West De Pere football team stopped the Galloping Ghosts dead in their tracks and prevented Kaukauna from advancing to the WIAA Division 2 state championship game.

So it’s no surprise that this year’s team has plenty of motivation when they travel to West De Pere Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The game also has interest statewide, and is one of five in the running for the Kwik Trip & Wisconsin Dairy Game of the Week from the Wisconsin Sports Network.

VOTE HERE (Kaukauna was in fourth place as of 1 p.m. Tuesday)

Fans can vote once per day, and voting goes through Wednesday at 1 pm.

The top vote getter will not only be featured on WisSports.net, but WSN General Manager Travis Wilson will make it his destination that week, with updates, photos, videos and stories from the big game.

KAUKAUNA AT WEST DE PERE (from WSN)

Kaukauna dominated Ashwaubenon to open the season a week ago, as Finley Doriot threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns on 14-of-19 passing.

Nolan Hall caught seven of those passes for 215 yards and a touchdown.

The Galloping Ghosts won in a running clock, 42-14.

West De Pere was pushed hard by Hortonville before pullilng away for a 25-14 victory.

The Phantoms threw for 355 yards and three touchdowns, most of it by Duke Shovald with 285 yards and two scores, though sophomore Patrick Greisen stepped in to complete six-of-six passes late in the game.

West De Pere won an overtime thriller last season, when Shovald and Doriot combined for more than 700 passing yards.
