KIMBERLY — As Wisconsin parents of young children already know, finding good, affordable and available child care has become increasingly difficult.

According to a report from the Wisconsin Policy Forum, Wisconsin doesn’t have enough child care workers right now and because of the state of the industry overall, low wages included, recruiting more workers is a challenge.

Gov. Tony Evers used a partial veto this week on the state’s biennial budget to steer $15 million toward grants for child care centers through the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.

However Evers had proposed funding $300 million to make permanent the Child Care Counts program, which launched during the COVID-19 pandemic using federal aid, but the Republican controlled majority removed that proposal.

To help address the childcare crisis in the Fox Valley, Child Care Resource & Referral of the Fox Valley, in partnership with Fox Cities Chamber, is hosting a free program, “Starting Your Child Care Business.”

This free informational session will be held both in-person and virtually on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
