APPLETON — Everyone was able to get out safely, however a home was left uninhabitable Thursday following a house fire in Appleton.

The Appleton Fire Department in a news release said they was sent to a structure fire about 8:20 p.m. Thursday in the 200 Block of South Fidelis Street.

The initial 911 call reported smoke in the basement of the house. The first arriving engine company found heavy smoke coming from the back of a single story residence.

The residents told firefighters that everyone was out of the home safely.

Fire companies made an aggressive interior attack in the basement of the home to extinguish the fire in zero visibility conditions, according to the news release.

Crews also searched the home for occupants to confirm that everyone was out. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.

The home is uninhabitable at this time, according to the news release.

The fire is currently under investigation and a cause has not been determined at the time of this release. Damage to the building and contents is estimated to be $175,000.
