KAUKAUNA — Among the graduates to cross the stage this month to accept their high school diplomas in Kaukauna and Seymour were four who had gone through the youth apprenticeship program at Ahlstrom Thilmany Mill in Kaukauna.

They are (left to right in the photo above):

Aiden Redman – Kaukauna High School, youth apprentice in the maintenance department, will continue working for at Ahlstrom.

Liz Lamers – Kaukauna High School, youth apprentice in the environmental engineering department, will work full-time during the summer and attend Michigan Tech in the fall pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering.

Josh Hayner (back row) – Seymour High School, youth apprentice in the maintenance department, will transfer to a full-time position as a pre-apprentice in the maintenance department.

Devon Nelson – Kaukauna High School, youth apprentice in the maintenance department, will transfer to a full-time position as a pre-apprentice in our maintenance department.

“The Ahlstrom, Thilmany Mill, would like to congratulate our graduating youth apprentices that have been with us during the school year, we are very proud of you and wish you well in your future endeavors here or as you go off to college,” the company said in a statement.

Coordinated through the State of Wisconsin and local schools, Wisconsin’s Youth Apprenticeship program integrates school-based and work-based learning to provide students with employability and occupational skills.  

Students are taught by qualified teachers and trained by skilled worksite mentors to prepare for careers while still in school.  

Students can work part-time hours during the school year and can obtain credit and employment training and get paid.
