APPLETON — Appleton police say a bomb threat that closed a street for hours while authorities investigated turned out to be a hoax.

Appleton police were sent about 6 a.m. Monday to the 700 Block of West Wisconsin for a bomb threat.

When they arrived, police set up a perimeter and officers completed a comprehensive search of the premises.

To ensure the safety of the community, police say the Appleton Drone Team was deployed along with two K9 teams specializing in explosive detection, a thorough search was conducted, and nothing was located, according to a news release.

It was determined the threat was not credible, and officers cleared the scene.

While the threat was ultimately deemed a hoax, police say they want to emphasize that the Appleton Police Department takes every threat seriously.

“The safety and security of the community remain our top priority.” the department said in a news release. “We would like to express our gratitude to the local law enforcement for their assistance this morning.”
