KAUKAUNA — Sophia Skrede, a 10-year-old Kaukana girl who suffers from a rare liver disorder, had a simple wish: A backyard play house where she and those close to her could spend time outside safely.

On Friday, her wish came true thanks to volunteers, Consolodated Construction and Make-A-Wish Wisconsin.

“She wanted a space she could enjoy while being safe. We have very open conversations about her keeping her liver healthy and part of that is being active,” her mother, Stephanie Skriede wrote on the Smiles for Phia Facebook page. “This space allows her to go outside and be a kid and have fun.”

When Sophia was 8 months old she was diagnosed with a condition called Biliary Atresia, a congenital disease of the liver that requires her to stay out of direct sunlight.

“Sophia continued to say how speechless she was all night,” Stephanie wrote. “From everyone at Make-A-Wish Wisconsin to every single company and volunteer they made this incredible for Sophia. We can never thank everyone enough.”
