KAUKAUNA — A duplex sustained about $20,000 in damage Tuesday evening after grease from cooking splashed on nearby cabinetry.
The Kaukauna Fire Department responded Tuesday evening at 8:45 PM for a report of a grease fire at 102 East Ann Street.
The tenant of the property was preparing dinner when a grease fire quickly became out of control, according to a fire department news release.
The tenant was able to safely get out and call 911.
The first fire engine arrived within 4 minutes of the dispatch, and the initial fire attack crew was able to extinguish the fire and contain it to kitchen of the home.
Fire investigators say the fire was started by hot grease splashing onto cabinetry.
No civilians were injured at the time of the fire. Nine reptiles were safely removed from the home.
The kitchen of home suffered $20,000 dollars’ worth of damage and the rest of the home sustained smoke damage.
Fire officials remind the public to always use caution when cooking with grease and never leave cooking materials unattended.
