KAUKAUNA — Kaukauna Ghosts’ head wrestling coach Jeff Matczak on been named the 2021-22 NFHS national wrestling coach of the year.

He also won the award in 2016.

Each year, the NFHS recognizes a coach from each state for significant achievement in their sport. Award recipients are selected based upon a variety of criteria including their coaching record, background, coaching honors and involvement in community and school organizations.

State-level recipients are further considered for NFHS Sectional and National recognition.

Matczak is a member of the Kaukauna Athletic Hall of Fame and Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame.

His wrestling team most recently finished fourth in the prestigous Cheesehead Invitational Wrestling Tournament held annually in Kaukauna.

The Ghosts’ wrestling team currently are the reigning WIAA Division 1 state wrestling champions after claiming their second straight title in March.

Kaukauna has won a total of six state championships, including four straight from 2014-17.

The Galloping Ghosts have also finished runner-up four times, including 2000, 2003, 2008 and 2013.
