KAUKAUNA — The Kaukauna Ghosts’ girls basketball team has taken over the top spot on the all-area rankings published Wednesday by the Post-Crescent.
1, Kaukauna (11-0): The Ghosts elevated to top status after beating Germantown 86-77 last Wednesday and Oskhosh North on Tuesday.
The Ghosts also are the state’s top ranked team in the Wissports.net coaches poll.
Kaukauna, Hortonville and Neenah remain in a tussle for the top spot in the Fox Valley Association.
Hortonville’s only loss this season was to Kaukauna on Dec. 16, and Neenah’s only loss was a 60-59 loss to Hortonville.
Kaukauna and Neenah face off in a big game Jan. 10 in Kaukauna, but the Ghosts will have to get past Fond du Lac Jan. 5 and Sheboygan North Jan. 7.
2, Hortonville (11-1): Polar Bears bounce back from Kaukauna loss on Dec. 16 with back-to-back wins over West De Pere (72-52) and Neenah (60-59). Next: Friday vs. Appleton East.
3, Neenah (11-1): Rockets drop another spot in rankings after close 60-59 loss to Hortonville. Next: Friday at Oshkosh North.
4, Freedom (9-1): Sadie Jarmolowicz leads the team in scoring (14.3) with Kierstin Kriewaldt also clearing double digits (10.1). Next: Friday at Marinette.
5, St. Mary Catholic (11-1): Zephyrs’ win streak hits five after 73-35 victory over Coleman last Thursday. Next: Jan. 10 vs. Sheboygan Christian.
