KAUKAUNA — The Girl Scout camp in Kaukauna, which has been in the community for generations, is being put up for sale, the Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes announced Tuesday.

The announcement comes as part of a long-term property plan that includes investments, divestments and new programming to reach Girl Scouts throughout the council.

The Girl Scouts say they are reimagining four Girl Scout Centers in each of our four council regions, including the Appleton Service Center in Appleton create the East Girl Scout Center.

To help facilitate the new Girl Scout Centers, they will divest a few properties over the next year, including Camp Winnecomac in Kaukauna.

“Evaluating our properties to ensure they match the Girl Scout experience we want to deliver has been an ongoing process for many years,” Dr. Corey King, Board Chair for GSNWGL said in a news release. Over the past three years, our council has conducted property studies, partnered with a property task group, and carefully analyzed survey data, membership data, demographic trends, access to partners, property usage, and other mission-critical criteria. “The results of our research challenged us in many ways. Most importantly, to find ways to increase access and participation for all girls,” notes GSNWGL CEO Patti Shafto-Carlson.

Kaukauna’s Girl Scout camp is a 40-acre property located on the city’s south side between 1000 Islands and the high school that provides summer programming for girls.

The Girl Scouts said they will use Camp Birch Trails (CBT), in the center of the council, as its premier resident camp for GSNWGL.
