APPLETON — Two people are being helped by the Red Cross today after their residence sustained major damage in a fire overnight in Appleton.

Appleton Fire Department units were called out about 1 a.m. Monday for a report of a house fire in the 200 Block of E. Wentworth Ln., according to an Appleton Fire Department news release.

The Outagamie County Communications Center reported that flames were visible on the exterior of the home and fire crews found flames at the back of the home when they arrived.

Firefighters conducted a search of the home to make sure no one was inside.

Firefighters determined that he fire had extended to the attic and extensive overhaul was conducted to extinguish the fire in the attic.

Crews brought the fire under control within 30 minutes. Damage to the building and contents is estimated at $150,000.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the two adults who have been displaced as a result of the fire. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

The Appleton Fire Department was assisted by APD and the Grand Chute Fire Department.

The Appleton Fire Department would like to remind all residents to allow outdoor cooking appliances to cool before covering them.
