KAUKAUNA — Community members are reacting following the news that a worker died Tuesday evening at the Ahlstrom-Munksjö Thilmany Mill in Kaukauna.

The incident happened during operating hours, and is currently under investigation by both regional emergency response and OSHA, according to a statement from the mill.

In a statement Wednesday, Mayor Tony Penterman, shared condolences from the city.

“We are saddened to learn of the tragic accident last night at our local paper mill,” Penterman wrote on social media. “On behalf of myself, City Staff and the Common Council of the City of Kaukauna our deepest sympathies go out to the family during this difficult time.

A mill spokesperson said that family members of the worker who died have been notified.

“During the evening of August 16 at the Thilmany Paper Mill in Kaukauna, a fatality occurred during operating hours. The family of our team member has been notified and we express our deepest condolences during this difficult time. We have no further details but are working closely with investigators as they review the incident. The incident is currently under investigation by both regional emergency response and OSHA,” said Addie Teeters, head of marketing communications & public affairs.
