FREEDOM — Midwest hospitality was on full display in Freedom this week for three bicyclists on their way to New England.

The bicyclists were making their way through Outagamie County Thursday evening, and were looking for a place to spend the night, when the came upon the Freedom Fire Department.

Although surprised, firefighters were happy to accommodate their request to bed down for the night.

“Shortly after returning to the station we had a strange request,” the department wrote on its Facebook page. “We had three guys show up on bicycles that are traveling to New Hampshire. They were looking for a place to pitch a tent for the night and we are obliging them.

“It’s just for one night and we wish them safe travels.”

The group then stopped at Mama D’s Cafe in Freedom Friday morning for breakfast before heading back on the road.

They also made a donation to the restaurant’s school supply driving to show their appreciation before heading back out on the road.

“All of us at Mama D’s wish these the gentleman a fun and safe journey, they are biking, yes biking to Vermont!” wrote Mama D’s on its Facebook page. “They loved our little town so much, they left a nice donation for school supply collection. Safe travels to you all!”
