UVALDE, Texas — Fourteen children and a teacher were shot and killed at a Texas elementary school in the latest mass shooting to plague the United States.

In a Tuesday news conference, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said the suspected shooter, an 18-year-old man, also died and was believed to be killed by responding officers.

The shooting happened at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, about 85 miles west of San Antonio.

Abbott said the shooter had a handgun and possibly a rifle.

The shooting comes just a week after a gunman killed 10 people at a Buffalo Supermarket in a racist attack.
