APPLETON — If you receive a call from Sgt. Wall of the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office asking for money, it’s a scam.

It turns out their actually is a Sgt. Jim Wall, and the sheriff’s office poked a little fun at the scammers Friday in a Facebook post.

According to the post, the real Sgt. Wall:

  • Knows how to pronouce Outagamie
  • Does not have a Southern accent
  • Does not accept cryptocurrency or gift cards
  • Will not allow you to “take care of your warrant” over the phone.

According to the sheriff’s office, they’ve been getting reports from citizens after receiving a call from “Sgt. Wall” asking for money.

They also remind residents that:

☑️Any call demanding payment is a scam.

☑️They do not take prepaid cards, gift cards or cryptocurrency.

☑️If you are suspicious that the person you are talking to is not a Deputy, you can call 920-832-5605 to verify their identity.

☑️If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.
