MADISON — The Kaukauna Ghosts’ wrestling team has returned to a familiar place. They’re the 2022 WIAA Division 1 state wrestling champions.
Kaukauna defeated Holmen Saturday, March 5, 2022 in the final in Madison to capture the title.
Coming in as the top seed, Kaukauna defeated Franklin 51-14 in the quarterfinal, then outlasted rival Stoughton 39-35 in the semifinal.
Kaukauna won the WIAA Division 1 team title a year ago by ousting former three-time defending champion Stoughton in the championship match.
They have won a total of six state championships, including four straight from 2014-17.
The Galloping Ghosts have also finished runner-up four times, including 2000, 2003, 2008 and 2013.
The Ghosts are coming off the success of the individual tournament a week ago.
Kaukauna qualified five wrestlers, with Greyson Clark winning his third consecutive state title.
