COMBINED LOCKS — Midwest Paper Group, which was formerly the Appleton Coated mill in Combined Locks until it closed in 2017, has a new owner.

McKinley Packaging, a subsidiary of Mexico-based company Bio-Pappel, announced the purchase Friday for an undisclosed price from previous owner Industrial Opportunity Partners, according to multiple media reports.

“Welcome to the McKinley family, Midwest Paper Group! With the acquisition of this new mill in WI, we’re fulfilling our goal of continuous growth across the US, better supporting our customers & reaching more clients with our integrated sustainable #paper & #packaging solutions,” the company posted on Twitter.

“It seems like this is going to be a good move,” Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson told WBAY TV.

He was among those who fought to keep the mill open and even wrote a book highlighting the battle.

“What’s different with this company with this owner versus the previous owner, the one before that, this is an industry player,” said Nelson, adding “It indicates that they could very well be making investments in it, and if they’re making investments in it it means the business is going to grow.”
