APPLETON — The Waupun-based eatery that at one time had a restaurant in downtown Kaukauna announced it will soon open a new location in Appleton.

The business confirmed today that a new location is coming to 500 E. Wisconsin Ave. in Appleton.

According to a post on their Facebook page, they plan to open in a few months.

The address currently is home to the Apple Valley Pancake House in Appleton.

Mateo’s was in downtown Kaukauna at 215 W. Wisconsin Ave. until they closed in August 2020.

The location is now home to La Patrona Family Restaurant. Prior to Mateo’s moving in, the restaurant was the Kaukauna location of Rico’s Family Restaurant, which at the time and multiple locations in the Fox Valley.

After Rico’s owner Efrain “Rico” Carrasco, passed away overnight on Nov. 12, 2021, the remaining location in Freedom was taken over by Longtime waitress Donna Wall and her husband, Dick, and renamed Mama D’s Cafe LLC.

Mateo’s is known as a breakfast and brunch restaurant, but also servers dinners and fish, too.
