MADISON — New data for released Friday by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services show that unvaccinated people are testing positive for COVID-19 at a rate three-times higher than those who are vaccinated.

The rate of hospitalizations and deaths are even higher.

According to December 2021 Wisconsin data.

  • People not fully vaccinated were diagnosed with COVID-19 at a rate 3x higher than people who were fully vaccinated. 
  • People not fully vaccinated were hospitalized with COVID-19 at a rate 10x higher than people who were fully vaccinated. 
  • People not fully vaccinated died from COVID-19 at a rate 14x higher than people who were fully vaccinated. 

To look at it another way, for each 100,000 fully vaccinated people in the state, there have been about 1,600 break-through cases of infection, 20 hospitalizations and four deaths last month.

However among each 100,000 of unvaccinated Wisconsinites, there have been 4,700 positive cases, 175 hospitalizations and 50 deaths.

Currently, about 57 percent of those eligible in Wisconsin to be vaccinated have completed their doses.
