KAUKAUNA — After two years at the center of often-heated debate over the best way to manage the pandemic, the race for the Kaukauna Area School District Board of Education has attracted a crowded field heading into the spring primary.
Tuesday was the deadline to file papers to get on the ballot.
There will be eight candidates running for three seats on the board. The candidates as they will be placed on the ballot are:
- Charles West
- Melissa Kurey
- Chad Berken – incumbent
- Samantha Hoffer
- Larry W. Coons
- Christine Bouressa – incumbent
- Kathryn Breitzman – incubment
- Samantha Grimh
WHERE THE CANDIDATES STAND ON THE ISSUES
Because of the number of candidates, there will be a primary on Tuesday Feb. 15, 2022.
Voters can choose up to three candidates, with the top six moving on to the April 5, 2022 general election.
On the city side, however, there will be no contested races.
Mayor Tony Penterman will run uncontested, along with four alders. They include:
- Jennie Eggleston, Ald. Dist. No. 1, Wards 1, 2, and 3
- John Moore, Ald. Dist. No. 2, Wards 4, and 5
- Mary Jo Kilgas, Ald. Dist. No. 3, Wards 6 and 7
- Mike Coenen, Ald. Dist. No. 4, Wards 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12
City Attorney Kevin Davidson also is running unopposed.
Unless changes are announced, polls for the election will be as follows:
FIRST AND SECOND ALDERMANIC DISTRICTS will be in the Council Chambers, Municipal Services Building, 144 W. Second Street.
THIRD AND FOURTH ALDERMANIC DISTRICTS will be in the Community Room of the Street, Park, and Recreation (SPAR) Building, 207 Reaume Ave., Kaukauna.
The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. on Election Day.
