Buss was the pole vaulting coach on the Kaukauna Ghosts track and field team and has been a coach at the AP Vaulting Club since 2014.

A candle light vigil was hosted at the club Saturday night in Ashwaubenon, bringing family, friends, and former athletes together to remember the impact of the coach on so many young athletes over the years.

“It was so easy to tell that Steve loved being a coach and helping his athletes,” said Nicole Buchinger, a former track athlete for Kaukauna High School who now is a member of the University of Minnesota track team. “He showed so much genuine happiness for our successes on and off the track, which speaks to the amazing, selfless man he was. He positively impacted the lives of so many by truly believing in all of us.”

Buss leaves behind his wife Shawn, daughter Jessica (21), and son Blake (13).

The biggest expense the family now is facing is the cost of the funeral.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
