WAUKESHA — Baseball players and softball players in Kaukauna will honor the youngest victim of the Waukesha parade tragedy Friday by wearing their jersey to honor 8-year-old Jackson Sparks.

Kaukauna Youth Baseball and Kaukauna Ghosts Fastpitch posted on social media about the #Jerseys4Jackson tribute that is gaining traction across the country.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue for the Waukesha community, Waukesha Blazers organization, and the Sparks family,” read the post.

Sparks was representing his team, the Waukesha Blazers, in the Waukesha Christmas Parade when a Milwaukee man sped onto the parade route, killing five others and injuring dozens more.

Sparks’ mother asked the people wear their jerseys Friday, the day of Jackson’s funeral.

The idea picked up steam after Heidi Kopps of Waukesha posted it on Twitter and broadcaster Brian Anderson also posted about it.

According to WISN-TV in Milwaukee, a number of Brewers will also be taking part Friday.
