KAUKAUNA — For a time, it looked like the Kaukauna Ghosts had the recipe to defeat rival Kimberly on senior night and the last regular season game of the year.

But the undefeated Papermakers were able to pull away beginning late in the first half for a 56-17 win at Bank of Kaukauna Stadium.

The loss isn’t the end of Kaukauna’s season however, and the WIAA post-season brackets will be released early Saturday.

Kaukauna was on the scoreboard first with a field goal following a Will Campbell interception to end the Papermakers’ first possession of the game.

Kimberly was able to get on the scoreboard just as the second quarter got underway, going up 7-3.

The Ghosts responded by driving the field, and on a fourth down, Finnley Doriot completed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Carson Sippel to give Kaukauna the lead again at 10-7.

But a 48-yard touchdown run put Kimberly back up 14-7.

As they had all game, Kaukauna responded quickly.

Noah Hoffman took the ensuing kickoff 95 yards, and after breaking multiple tackles scored to put Kaukauna back up 17-14.

Kimberly’s defense clamped down on the Ghosts, and their offense scored twice late in the second quarter put the Papermakers up 28-17 at the half.

The second half was all Papermakers, with the final score of 56-17.

After tonight’s games, schools will report their final game scores to the WIAA, who will compile the results and release the list of 224 teams that will be in post-season play.

Then, about 2 a.m. WIAA will release the post-season brackets, so the Ghosts will know their next opponent.

Teams and brackets will be posted to the WIAA website HERE.
